It was so hot and icky so I thought it would be great to go to the beach.
TERRIBLE idea. The water was WARM!!! It felt so gross because I was all sweaty and hot and the water actually made things worse. And there was no escaping the heat. It wasn't even windy or anything. I am never going back to the beach in Guatemala ever again because of this terrible experience.
After this, we just started sightseeing including visiting the house that my mom had built when she came to work in the states.
Not exactly what I remember, of course the last time I went was 21 years ago....
After this we went down the road to find my Tio Miguel. Elena quickly made herself at home as usual:
Then we went to a restaurant where only "Hiluxes" are parked, to please my hungry father. (Hilux is a high end Toyota pickup truck in Guatemala).
And our last stop in Nueva Concepcion was my Tio Goyo's parcela. Dina, who is usually very shy and distant started fake reading to the girls who did not know she was making up all the "reading" she was doing:
Hammocks!!! The whole time in Guate, I kept on telling myself
that I would buy one but I never did :(
The next day we went to Jutiapa to get to know the land where my dad grew up. But first breakfast at D'Rock:
I HATE going to restaurants with the kids when there are other people present because they don't behave. EVER. But luckily for me, there was only one other table occupied, but my impatient non-kid friendly dad was there. So that breakfast was pretty stressful...
The next day was spent in Guatemala City. To say I was disappointed and disgusted is an understatement. Everything is so dirty. You have to pay to use public restrooms and you literally have to put water in the toilet to flush it. And 2 out of 3 cars would not even be close to passing the CA smog test.
Yes I am smiling but only because that is what I do for pictures:
Pictured: the Palacio Nacional and a public transit bus, NOT school bus
Final day with grandpa Francisco. Elena spent all her time
here shoeless, of course. And when she could, bottomless...
The rest of the trip will come later because I know it has been forever since I last wrote and it feels very good to have another post posted haha. And this is my blog so I do what I want. But don't worry. The rest of the trip was way more kid friendly (we spent a lot of time in the car with my dad, which kids did NOT appreciate).
