Abel can ride without training wheels!

Normal random day.  Abel is outside riding Dina's bike as usual and Dina doesn't mind because she's riding Elena's tricycle and pretending its a horse.  Abel claims he likes Dina's bike better because it is smaller therefore easier to get on and off.  Anyway, I say (not at all seriously) "Hey Abel, how about you learn how to use your bike without training wheels?"
Abel: "Ummm.... I don't know.  Okay! But you gotta take them off with Papi's tools!"
Me: (trying to take back what I said) "Well those look kind of tight, how about we wait until Papi gets home?"
Abel: "No!  You can do it? Here, look!" (runs into the garage and gets the appropriate tool)
Me: (okay, fine....)

So he gets on and says the usual "But don't let go, okay?"  I, of course, confirm but am thinking about whether or not I should let go.  As he starts going, he is VERY unstable and so I decide to definitely NOT let go.  But then, "Okay mommy, let go."  Very unsure at this point but why not?  Worse that can happen, he falls and we all go inside.  He takes off like a pro.  I really cannot believe my eyes!  Everything I thought I knew about teaching a 6 year old how to ride without training wheels has been shattered.

yes, he eventually ran into our van

He's still having trouble getting on and off but that's because the bike is a little big for him.  I told him to make sure he eats all his veggies and chicken and he'll grow big enough in not time.
